The
DAT files are compatible with all operating systems (DOS, Win3x, Win95,
WinNT, WinNT Server, Novell, and Unix) with the exception of MAC.
MAC
users have their own special version of the DAT files. They are available
at http://download.mcafee.com/updates/datmac.asp.
These
DAT files are NOT compatible with the Dr. Solomon's Antivirus
product. Dr. Solomon's customers should visit their web site at http://www.drsolomon.com
for more information.
- VirusScan 2x
users should use a 2x version of the DAT files.
- VirusScan 3x
users should use a 3x version of the DAT files.
- VirusScan 4.00
users should use a 3x version of the DAT files.
- VirusScan 4.01+
users should use a 4x version of the DAT files.
- Open
your web browser and go to: http://download.mcafee.com/updates/dldat.asp.
- Click
on the appropriate DAT file link
- Click
on the link that is closest to your location.
- When
the SAVE AS dialog box opens, click on the option to SAVE the file
(never click on OPEN or VIEW). Save the file to your desktop. You may
need to click on SAVE or OK to actually start the download.
- Once
the file is downloaded, it will need to be unzipped. If you are unsure
of how to unzip files, skip to UNZIPPING DAT FILES section below.
- Unzip
the files into one of the corresponding directories:

- You
will be asked if you want to overwrite existing files in this
directory. Answer by clicking on "YES" or "YES TO
ALL".
- Reboot
your machine. The new DAT files are now installed.
UNZIPPING
DAT FILES
If
you don't already have an unzip utility, proceed with the following
information. Otherwise, skip to step #6:
- Using
your WWW browser, go to http://www.winzip.com.
- Download
the latest EVALUATION version of the WinZIP software.
- When
prompted, choose to save the file to disk. Download the file to your
desktop.
- When
the file is done downloading, double click the file to run the setup.
- During
the WinZIP setup, choose the "WinZIP Classic" interface.
Once this is completed, Winzip will be installed on your system.
- Find
the DAT file you download on your desktop and double click it. Winzip
will open automatically.
- At
the top of the WinZIP window, click the EXTRACT icon. In the window
provided, choose the VirusScan directory in which to extract the
files, based on the following:
